Dear friend

Thank you for visiting the Rotary Club of Phoenix website. Our club is based in the paradise island of Mauritius, located in the southern part of the Indian Ocean, and we are proud to belong to a family of more than 1.2 million Rotarians who believe it all starts with a commitment to “Service Above Self”.

Ladies and gentlemen of our club hail from different professional backgrounds, ethnic groups, walks of life and we are also proud to have amongst our midst a few members who are of different nationalities. We are one of more than 34,000 clubs worldwide in more than 200 countries and geographical areas, where members volunteer to support numerous initiatives impacting education, poverty, empowerment, combating hunger, improving health and sanitation, and eradicating polio amongst others.

As signified by the motto “Service Above Self”, Rotary’s main objective is service — in the community, in the workplace, and throughout the world.

My vision for the year ahead, which I hope to achieve with my fellow members, and in many respect a continuation of laudable initiatives started under the leadership of outgoing President Raj Ragaven, broadly rests on initiatives spread into our different avenues of service, namely Club Service, Vocational Service, Community Service, New Generations Service and International Service.

A Rotary office is ours for only a year, but we are Rotarians for a lifetime. Every year, the baton of Rotary leadership passes to a new class of Rotary leaders. Each of us entered to learn; and go forth to serve. We are now a part of the tradition of Rotary leadership that has spanned 100 years. It is for us to bring new ideas and fresh enthusiasm, to build on the accomplishments of our predecessors, and to leave better and stronger clubs to those who will come after us.

It is never too early nor too late to become a Rotarian. If you are not part of the Rotary family yet, you may wish to consider joining. The chances are that you might end up staying for a very long time!

Finally, if you are already a Rotarian, we heartily welcome you to visit our club.

Cheers!

Amaresh Ramlugan
